Peepies!

Aren't they cute?! First time I've been involved in raising peeps! This is so exciting, but boy are they a lot more work than I thought! They do nothing but poop! These are not all mine. I am 'peep-sitting' for a friend, but I will get to keep two of these little yellow ones. They are supposed to be the Easter-eggers (green egg layers) I so desperately want! I sure hope so. I see the kaleidoscope of of colored eggs of other blogs I read and I have (I hate to admit) "egg envy". You know you're meant to do what you're doing when you covet thy neighbors eggs! LOL

G'day all! They sun's shining; get out and enjoy it!

Rumor has it there's a storm a brewin'. One that could possibly bring a couple feet of snow in the next 48 hours. Funny how the worst of our snow this season seems to be coming up from the south; go figure. I work until 2pm and am hoping that things stay calm enough for me to get home. Somehow an over-nighter in my office just doesn't sound as appealing as my own warm bed with a warm fuzzy dog and snoring husband by my side. Not sure what I've got in the house to sustain us if travel is an impossibility, but I do know one thing for sure...there's plenty of eggs! (as you can see) My hens have been laying like mad! Not sure but this storm might slow things down a bit. They're sure going to be unhappy once they see all that white stuff again. They've really been enjoying these mild days of foraging. I've tried to sit them down and explain that is 'winter' after all. They don't seem to pay me much mind and continue to cluck and crow, irritated that I'm blocking their flow of traffic. Perhaps 2 feet of snow will adjust their attitudes.

Who wouldn't want to pick up a chicken?

Good morning from the farm! Another cold day, but not nearly as cold as it was last week. The chickens seem to be adjusting well to the colder weather. Of course, no eggs since Thanksgiving, but I realize that is to be expected. In fact, some of my chickens are still molting. Pumpkin, for instance, looks like death warmed over. I'm glad someone warned me beforehand that they can look this bad or I would have been quite worried. She is after all my best egg layer. I love the chickens in the morning, though! They are so fun to watch pop out of the coop when I first open it up. Moses, my large red rooster, is always the first out. But I think my favorite to watch hop around are my three silikies with their little 'pantaloon' rumps!
